Grunwerg Sponsors the Westside Restaurant Awards 2022

As Grunwerg were established in Sheffield in 1945, we are always keen to support the local hospitality community. That’s why we are proud to have been the main sponsors of the Westside Restaurant Awards which took place at the OEC. A variety of restaurants in and around Sheffield went head-to-head, battling it out with a selection of Grunwerg’ s cutlery, till one emerged victorious.

Ok, ok, it wasn’t quite that dramatic.

In fact, the awards ceremony was very much like any other awards ceremony… people (not us of course) sneaking that second and even third glass of ‘Welcome Prosecco’. Too much wine at dinner leading to drunken dancing after the awards ceremony was over. However it was a fabulous turn out, and everyone had as fantastic time.

We had a table of twelve, which surprisingly was not a squeeze. Ten were the Grunwerg Team; however we were also delighted to welcome a couple of our customers from Russums to the ceremony. The delicious four course meal with Pot Daube of Beef as the main went down an absolute storm… except with the vegetarians and vegans obviously. However, we are assured they were also incredibly well catered for.

An array of very deserving winners and has given us a handy list of restaurants and food that we feel it is our duty to taste.

The last two awards were (in our humble opinion) the most prestigious and Ben Grunwerg was honoured to present them.

Young Chef of the Year 2022 - Chris Parker⠀⠀
Restaurant of the Year Award 2022 - Rafters Sheffield ⠀
We presented Chris with a new exclusive Global Kiritsuke Knife and have offered Rafters 60 dozen pieces of our finest cutlery. We are looking forward to welcoming them to our showroom to make their selection.

During the last two awards, Ben Grunwerg made a lovely speech. Unfortunately, as it was at the end of the night, it was largely drowned out by the excited chattering of the multiple award winners… and most of the rest of the dining room.

The gist of it was that we hoped everyone was having a fabulous evening (the noise in the dining room indicated that they were) and that we were delighted to sponsor our hometown restaurant awards. It’s great to see the restaurant scene so vibrant and have so many high-quality restaurants and chefs in the area. He added that he hoped that all our local restaurants will use premium locally designed cutlery in their restaurants… ideally Grunwerg Cutlery obviously.

He also mentioned we’d had a fabulous night and thank you to all the team at RMC media for putting together an incredible evening.
With great restraint, he did manage to avoid complaining about the poor choice of cutlery we were dining with.

The big surprise of the night that was all 60 of the Grunwerg vacuum bottles that were displayed on a table for people to take all disappeared. We hadn’t realised how much people love a freebie. Next time we will be sure to take lots more!

We will definitely continue to support local and plan to sponsor the event again next year.
